2016 Mazda CX-3 vs. 2016 Mazda CX-5
Are you trying to choose the perfect Mazda SUV on Vancouver Island? You might be trying to decide between 2016 Mazda CX-3 vs 2016 Mazda CX-5. But which one is right for you and your family? Harris Mazda provides this handy guide.
The 2016 Mazda CX-3 features a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a dual overhead cam shaft and variable valve timing to produce a smooth and efficient stream of power. The SKYACTIV®-G compresses the gasoline in your engine for a greater compression ratio than normal engines, leading to fuel efficiency of up to 15% greater than a comparable engine without SKYACTIV®-G. It uses advanced direct fuel injection for reliable power when you need it, and the engine is made of aluminum alloy for a lightweight powertrain. The engine produces 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. With the SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission, which comes with a manual shift mode for more spirited driving and a Sport mode for responsive power, you’ll get up to 7.9L/100 km hwy. You can choose from front wheel drive or all wheel drive to go with this engine.
The 2016 Mazda CX-5 features a choice of two engines, both with SKYACTIV®-G, a dual overhead cam shaft, and variable valve timing. The 2.0L engine produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, with a SKYACTIV®-MT manual 6-speed transmission with overdrive for more power. It gets up to 6.8L/100 km hwy. The upgraded engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic sport transmission with a manual shift mode and sport mode, and gets up to 7.9L/100 km hwy.
The 2016 Mazda CX-3 comes with Mazda’s unique i-ACTIV AWD™. The i-ACTIV AWD™ , all wheel drive, is a predictive all wheel drive system which uses sensors to check road and driver conditions 200 times per second. Sensors monitor performance variables such as the exterior temperature and wiper operation for weather information, as well as the amount of torque required to turn the front wheels and the energy load on the engine. It also uses sensors to monitor your driving style, such as how sharply the steering wheel is being turned and how much pressure you’re applying to the brake. This helps the system determine the road conditions and how to send just enough torque to the rear wheels to prevent your vehicle from slipping, while minimizing the energy use on your engine.
The 2016 Mazda CX-5 comes with Active Torque Split All Wheel Drive. It uses a chain instead of a belt for a larger span of ratios, which means it’ll have a quicker response to throttle input than a standard all wheel drive. It distributes torque for a 60:40 ratio to the front and the rear, which is ideal for normal driving. Like the i-ACTIV AWD™, it uses sensors to monitor the changes in the way the tires are gripping the road or in the speed of the vehicle to perfectly adjust the torque it’s sending to each axle.
